Sherman Oaks was intensely developed in the early nineteen-hundreds as it was one of the first San Fernando Valley communities to experience rapid growth. Anticipating the building of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in 1913, Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company purchased 47,500 acres of the southeast San Fernando Valley in 1910. General Moses Hazeltine Sherman, bought a thousand acres for himself and in 1927, Sherman subdivided the property and sold those Sherman Oaks CA real estate plots for $780 an acre.

All of Sherman Oaks was incorporated in 1948 and today Sherman Oaks has experienced non-stop growth even in this challenging market. In contrast to much of the San Fernando Valley, this area is relatively urbanized, with commercial skyscrapers along Ventura Boulevard in the prime area of commercial real estate. Along with great commercial space, Sherman Oaks also offers beautiful residential neighborhoods along with great dining and world class shopping.
